Raputatud mitte räsitud

Tuleb tuul ja heidab võrgu

meelitab ja pakub head

Ei sa taaru ega tõrgu

sina suudad, sina tead

Väge-võimu sulle hoogsalt näitab

kaasa tantsid, et soove tal mängult täita

Võidutsedes veidi, pea ta raugeb

sina jääd, ikka habras, ikka tugev

Kutsikakirg

Sind nähes hüplen rõõmust
su läheduses niutsun õnnest
su silitusest õõtsun õndsuses
ei soovi sult ma muud kui luba
aina sinu järel silgata

Siis tuleb tema
tulvil uusi uimastavaid aroome
maiuseid ja meelehead

Teda nähes hüplen rõõmust
ta läheduses niutsun õnnest
ta silitusest õõtsun õndsuses
ei soovi talt ma muud kui luba
aina tema järel silgata

Siin te nüüd olete
ahvatluste-aroomide
maiuste ja meeleheaga
te vahet käin
ega tea kelle poole hoida
kelle järel silgata

Uu-uu! Urr-auh!

♥ May Sarton: Autumn Sonata

If I can let you go as trees let go
Their leaves, so casually, one by one;
If I can come to know what they do know,
That fall is the release, the consummation,
Then fear of time and the uncertain fruit
Would not distemper the great lucid skies
This strangest autumn, mellow and acute.
If I can take the dark with open eyes
And call it seasonal, not harsh or strange
(For love itself may need a time of sleep),
And, treelike, stand unmoved before the change,
Lose what I lose to keep what I can keep,
The strong root still alive under the snow,
Love will endure - if I can let you go.

♥ Artur Alliksaar: Seitse etüüdi. 1. / Seven etudes. 1

Ütle, kas süda ei ole siis meri

täis tunnete uppuvaid laevu;

Elada siiski on ilus!

Tell me, isn't our heart like the sea,

full of fallen ships of our feelings,

or the field where we sow seeds of joy,

but gather crops of sufferings?

Flowers blossomed from your teardrops.

A soothing breeze caressed your hair.

And brilliantly, stars arch over the night.

The life is still quite alright!

♥ Charles C. Finn: Please Hear What I'm Not Saying

Don't be fooled by me.

Don't be fooled by the face I wear
for I wear a mask, a thousand masks,
masks that I'm afraid to take off,
and none of them is me.

Pretending is an art that's second nature with me,
but don't be fooled,
for God's sake don't be fooled.
I give you the impression that I'm secure,
that all is sunny and unruffled with me, within as well as without,
that confidence is my name and coolness my game,
that the water's calm and I'm in command
and that I need no one,
but don't believe me.
My surface may seem smooth but my surface is my mask,
ever-varying and ever-concealing.
Beneath lies no complacence.
Beneath lies confusion, and fear, and aloneness.
But I hide this. I don't want anybody to know it.
I panic at the thought of my weakness exposed.
That's why I frantically create a mask to hide behind,
a nonchalant sophisticated facade,
to help me pretend,
to shield me from the glance that knows.

But such a glance is precisely my salvation, my only hope,
and I know it.
That is, if it's followed by acceptance,
if it's followed by love.
It's the only thing that can liberate me from myself,
from my own self-built prison walls,
from the barriers I so painstakingly erect.
It's the only thing that will assure me
of what I can't assure myself,
that I'm really worth something.
But I don't tell you this. I don't dare to, I'm afraid to.
I'm afraid your glance will not be followed by acceptance,
will not be followed by love.
I'm afraid you'll think less of me,
that you'll laugh, and your laugh would kill me.
I'm afraid that deep-down I'm nothing
and that you will see this and reject me.

So I play my game, my desperate pretending game,
with a facade of assurance without
and a trembling child within.
So begins the glittering but empty parade of masks,
and my life becomes a front.
I idly chatter to you in the suave tones of surface talk.
I tell you everything that's really nothing,
and nothing of what's everything,
of what's crying within me.
So when I'm going through my routine
do not be fooled by what I'm saying.
Please listen carefully and try to hear what I'm not saying,
what I'd like to be able to say,
what for survival I need to say,
but what I can't say.

I don't like hiding.
I don't like playing superficial phony games.
I want to stop playing them.
I want to be genuine and spontaneous and me
but you've got to help me.
You've got to hold out your hand
even when that's the last thing I seem to want.
Only you can wipe away from my eyes
the blank stare of the breathing dead.
Only you can call me into aliveness.
Each time you're kind, and gentle, and encouraging,
each time you try to understand because you really care,
my heart begins to grow wings--
very small wings,
very feeble wings,
but wings!

With your power to touch me into feeling
you can breathe life into me.
I want you to know that.
I want you to know how important you are to me,
how you can be a creator--an honest-to-God creator--
of the person that is me
if you choose to.
You alone can break down the wall behind which I tremble,
you alone can remove my mask,
you alone can release me from my shadow-world of panic,
from my lonely prison,
if you choose to.
Please choose to.

Do not pass me by.
It will not be easy for you.
A long conviction of worthlessness builds strong walls.
The nearer you approach to me the blinder I may strike back.
It's irrational, but despite what the books say about man
often I am irrational.
I fight against the very thing I cry out for.
But I am told that love is stronger than strong walls
and in this lies my hope.
Please try to beat down those walls
with firm hands but with gentle hands
for a child is very sensitive.

Who am I, you may wonder?
I am someone you know very well.
For I am every man you meet
and I am every woman you meet.

♥ Aleksander Suuman: Kingin sulle kimbukese taevatähti / Giving You Posy of Stars from Sky

Kingin sulle kimbukese taevatähti.

Öösel, kui magasin,

rippusid nad

mu näo kohal.

Hommikul leidsin nad

leppade alt

ülastena õitsemas.

Kingin sulle kimbukese

taevatähti.

Ära karda,

nad ei närbu

ega varise kunagi.

Ainult vahetevahel,

kui on hästi pime,

lendavad nad

taevasse

toretsema.

Giving you a posy of stars from the sky.

At night when I was sleeping

they hung

above my face.

In the morning, I found them

under the willow trees,

blooming as buttercups.

Giving you a posy

of stars from the sky.

Don't worry,

they will never wilt

or wither away.

Just every now and then

when it's very dark

they fly off

to rejoice

in the sky.

Parim vabadus

Parim vabadus on see, milles keegi ei kannata

Ühe kannatus on teiste kannatus

Parim vabadus on see, milles keegi ei kaota

Ühe kaotus on teiste kaotus

Parim vabadus on vabadus anda

Ühe and on teistele

Parim vabadus on vastutus

iseenda ja teiste ees

♥ Henrik Visnapuu: Kümnes kiri Ingile / Tenth letter to Ing

Mäletad, Ing, seda alleed,

seda üksikut lumist teed?

Kuused olid kui suhkrupääd,

suhkrupäie all sina läed.

Kuused latvadel kandsid kuid,

lumilinnud painutid puid,

unen nägid nad unest und,

langeten peksid tiivuga lund.

Mäletad, Ing, seda alleed,

seda üksikut lumist teed,

kust me jooksime kinni käest

lume lennaten alla mäest?

Ühel ristteel lunde sa

kiskusid minu endaga.

Mäletad, veeresime alla mäest

võet kinni kaelast ja käest?

Hiljem leidsime metsa sees

igalt poolt “armas” eest.

Kuused olid kui suhkrupääd,

suhkrupäie sean sina läed.

Nüüd olen sinuta siin,

südamen sõnatu piin.

Mäletad, Ing, seda alleed?

Sa mida minuta teed?

Ing, you still remember this pathway,

the lone snowed-in spruce alley?

Trees like sugar cones tall

and under them, you stroll.

Moon hopping on spruce tops,

bent by snow owls deep in dreaming,

on their descent, making snow

to drop with a flap of their wings.

Ing, you still remember this pathway,

the lone snowed-in spruce alley

from where we ran hand in hand

down the hill flying snow behind?

On a crossway, having me in tow,

you dragged us right into the snow.

Remember us rolling downhill,

grasping to each other still?

Later inside the forest there

we found ‘sweetheart’ everywhere.

Trees like sugar cones tall,

and under them, you stroll.

Now without you, I’m here,

my heart full of silent despair.

Ing, you still remember this pathway?

What are you doing without me?

Pühitsetud

Pärt Uusbergi "Õhtu ilu" kuulates
Vaikusest kostab heli
õhtuudust välja
üminal sammuvad naised
tulipunasesse
katedraali

Aegu kõrge ja kauge
kõlab nüüd siin naiste hääl õrn
ja võlvide all
paisub

Altari ees mehed
märguande ootel et
ühineda ja
toetada

Nende hääled põimuvad ühte ja siis
kõlab nende laulukajas
kõiksuse enda hääl

Ühed annavad õrnuse, teised toe
ei ole üht teisteta
teised üheta olla
ei saa

Laulust vägevad
hinges pühitsus
valguvad nad üle ilma
armastust jagama

Kui tapvalt tüütuks muutub kõik
ja ärritav on iga tühiseimgi tõik

lööd viimaks sirgu oma selja
ja astud surnud ringist välja

aule-kuulsusele ütled adjöö
sest need on kõigest sund ja töö

heast loobud ja käid kitsast rada
mille lõpus pole ühtki kullapada

eemale tõmbud et üksi olla
ja kõik oma maskid lasta alla

on kõigest pinnal vaikne vaikelu
all selle käimas lõppematu melu

meeled edastavad pindmist
sisimani viib vaid su vaist

♥ Galway Kinnell: Saint Francis and the Sow / Püha Franciscus ja emis

The bud

stands for all things,

even for those things that don’t – flower,

for everything flowers, from within, of self-blessing;

though sometimes it is necessary

to reteach a thing its loveliness,

to put a hand on the brow

of the flower,

and retell it in words and in touch,
it is lovely

until it flowers again from within, of self-blessing;

as Saint Francis

put his hand on the creased forehead

of the sow, and told her in words and in touch

blessings of earth on the sow, and the sow

began remembering all down her thick length,

from the earthen snout all the way

through the fodder and slops to the spiritual curl of the tail,

from the hard spininess spiked out from the spine

down through the great broken heart

to the sheer blue milken dreaminess spurting and shuddering

from the fourteen teats into the fourteen mouths sucking and blowing beneath them:

the long, perfect loveliness of sow.

Pung

käib kõigi asjade kohta,

ka nende, mis ei – õitse,

sest iga asi õitseb, sisimas, eneseõnnistusest;

siiski on aeg-ajalt vaja

asjale taas tema võlust vesta,

panna käsi

lille laubale

ja taas öelda talle sõnades ja puudutuses,

kui võluv ta on,

kuni ta õitseb jälle, sisimas, eneseõnnistusest;

nagu Püha Franciscus

pani käe emise krimpsus

laubale ja andis emisele sõnades ja puudutuses

maa õnnistuse, ja emisele

meenus kogu ta priskes pikkuses

maisest kärsast läbi

sulbi ja roka spirituaalse sabarõngani välja,

turja turritavast teravusest

alla läbi murtud suure südame

kuni ehedalt piimja siniuneluseni purskumas ja pritsimas

neljateistkümnest nisast neljateistkümnesse lutsivasse suusse:

emise pikk täiuslik võlu.

♥ Anna Haava: Me oleme Põhjamaa lapsed / We Are Children of the North

Meid saatnud vaikustehelin

Ja tähtesäravad ööd.

Kuukumased, lumitand metsad

Ja vaiksed kaugeleteed:

Me oleme põhjamaa lapsed,

Kaks – meie mõlemad.

Jääb lumekargelt põue

Meil südame sügavam õnn –

Ja südame sügavam valu,

Nad ainult aimata on…

Jääb igavest` ütlemata

Meil südame õndsam õnn –

Ja südame sügavam valu,

Mis vaikiv kui igavik on…

Amidst the sounds of silence

And nights bright with stars,

Snowbound forests glowing in moon light

And quiet roads to far away,

We are children of the North,

Two – both of us.

The deepest joys of our hearts

Held inside, fresh as snow.

And the deepest sorrows of our hearts

Only to be guessed…

The sweetest joys of our hearts

We never tell –

And the deepest sorrows of our hearts

Are silent as eternity…

♥ Allen Ginsberg: Song / Laul

The weight of the world

is love.

Under the burden

of solitude,

under the burden

of dissatisfaction

the weight,

the weight we carry

is love.

Who can deny?

In dreams

it touches

the body,

in thought

constructs

a miracle,

in imagination

anguishes

till born

in human -

looks out of the heart

burning with purity -

for the burden of life

is love,

but we carry the weight

wearily,

and so must rest

in the arms of love

at last,

must rest in the arms

of love.

No rest

without love,

no sleep

without dreams

of love -

be mad or chill

obsessed with angels

or machines,

the final wish

is love

- cannot be bitter,

cannot deny,

cannot withhold

if denied:

the weight is too heavy

- must give

for no return

as thought

is given

in solitude

in all the excellence

of its excess.

The warm bodies

shine together

in the darkness,

the hand moves

to the center

of the flesh,

the skin trembles

in happiness

and the soul comes

joyful to the eye -

yes, yes,

that's what

I wanted,

I always wanted,

I always wanted,

to return

to the body

where I was born.

Maailma raskus

on armastus.

All üksinduse

koorma,

all meelapaha

koorma

raskus

raskus, mida kanname,

on armastus.

Kes saaks eitada?

Ulmades

puudutab see

ihu,

mõtteis

meisterdab

ime,

kujutlusis

kannatab,

kuni sünnib

inimeses -

silmab südamest välja

puhtusest põledes -

sest elu raskus

on armastus,

aga me kanname seda raskust

roidunult

ja peame siis puhkama

armastuse embuses

viimaks,

peame puhkama armastuse

embuses.

Pole puhkust

armastuseta,

pole und

armastuse

ulmata -

ole sa hull või rahu ise,

vallatud inglitest

või masinatest,

viimne soov

on armastus

- ei saa olla kibestunud,

ei saa eitada,

ei saa tagasi hoida

kui eitatakse:

raskus on liiga suur

- peab andma

midagi vastu ootamata,

nagu mõtet

mõlgutatakse

üksi olles

selle imetabases

külluses.

Soojad ihud

hiilgavad üheskoos

pimeduses,

käsi liigub

liha

keskele,

nahk väreleb

õnnest

ja hing tuleb

rõõmus silmisse -

jaa, jaa,

just seda

ma tahtsin,

olen alati tahtnud,

olen alati tahtnud

tagasi

ihusse,

milles ma sündisin.

su pilgu teisel leian

põue pitsitab kui

tal naeratad

pilgu tuhmistab kui

vastu tal astud

kõrvad kurdiks lööb kui

naermas teid kuulen

mõistuse röövib kui

te embust näen

Armastus

leebelt mind hoiab kui

last kiigutab

õrnalt kõrva mul sosistab

rahu rahu

mind on nii palju

et küllaga jagub sullegi

♥ Naomi Shihab Nye: Kindness / Lahkus

Before you know what kindness really is

you must lose things,

feel the future dissolve in a moment

like salt in a weakened broth.

What you held in your hand,

what you counted and carefully saved,

all this must go so you know

how desolate the landscape can be

between the regions of kindness.

How you ride and ride

thinking the bus will never stop,

the passengers eating maize and chicken

will stare out the window forever.

Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness,

you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho

lies dead by the side of the road.

You must see how this could be you,

how he too was someone

who journeyed through the night with plans

and the simple breath that kept him alive.

Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside,

you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing.

You must wake up with sorrow.

You must speak to it till your voice

catches the thread of all sorrows

and you see the size of the cloth.

Then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore,

only kindness that ties your shoes

and sends you out into the day to mail letters and

purchase bread,

only kindness that raises its head

from the crowd of the world to say

it is I you have been looking for,

and then goes with you every where

like a shadow or a friend.

Enne kui tead, mis lahkus õieti on,

pead midagi kaotama,

tundma tulevikku ühe hetkega lahustumas

kui sool lahjendatud leemes.

Peos mis sul oli,

mida hindasid ja hoolsalt hoidsid,

kaotama pead, et teada

kui kõle võib olla maastik

lahkuselaikude vahel.

Kuidas sõidad ja sõidad

ja mõtled: buss ei peatu eal,

maisi ja kana nosivad sõitjad

aga aiva aknast välja vaatavad.

Et kogeda lahkuse õrna tõmmet,

pead jõudma sinna, kus valges pontšos

indiaanlane on surnult tee ääres maas.

The leaves are bright

as a million

electric lights on

the yellow hill

The sun moves up

on the little trees

vast Autumn helium

after last night—

Three men sprawl drunk

in the birch thicket

on the small dump road

they finished the whiskey

Birds sing on barbwire

fresh wind rushes the trees

the jeep motor runs quietly

a frog jumps thru grass

Faraway on Hawk Ridge eagles

swoop down following

the ancient windpath

South along Appalachians

The universe is so airy

you need only get up

cold and walk the dirt road

at dawn to be in Heaven

Puulehed säravad

Linnud laulavad okastraadil

♥ Max Ehrmann: Desiderata*

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,

and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender

be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly;

and listen to others,

even the dull and the ignorant;

they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,

they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,

you may become vain and bitter;

for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;

it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs;

for the world is full of trickery.

But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;

many persons strive for high ideals;

and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.

Especially, do not feign affection.

Neither be cynical about love;

for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment

it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,

gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,

be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,

no less than the trees and the stars;

you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,

no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,

whatever you conceive Him to be,

and whatever your labors and aspirations,

in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,

it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.

Kindlalt kõnni kesk kisa ja kiiret,

meeles pea rahu vaikuse sees.

Minetamata ennast,

ole rahujalal kõigiga.

Oma tõde ütle vaikselt ja selgelt,

kuula teisi,

sest isegi tuimal ja teadmatul on,

mida öelda.

Eemal hoia lärmakatest ja riiakatest,

sest need vaid su vaimu vaevavad.

End teistega võrreldes võid minna uhkeks või kibedaks,

sest alati on neid,

kes on sust halvemad või paremad.

Tunne rõõmu nii saavutustest kui ka kavatsustest.

Oma kutsumust järgi, sest ükskõik kui kuulsusetu,

on see tõeline aare elu muutuvas õnnemängus.

Tegutsedes kasuta ettevaatust,

sest ilm on teesklust täis.

Ent ärgu varjaku see voorusi, mis ilmas on:

ideaale kõrgeid järgivad paljud

ja sangareid igal sammul leida võib.

Ole sina ise.

Ära teeskle tundeid.

Ära armastust pilka,

sest hoolimata põuast ja pettumusest

see kui kevadine rohi tärkab taas.

Lahkesti võta vastu aastate õppetunnid,

noorustükkidel väärikalt minna lase.

Hingetugevust toida kaitseks ootamatu ebaõnne eest.

Ära piina end süngete kujutelmadega.

Palju hirme sünnib väsimusest ja üksildusest.

Peale eluterve enesevalitsuse

ole enda vastu leebe.

Oled universumi laps,

mitte vähem tähtis kui puud ja taevatähed –

sinulgi on õigus olla siin.

Ja kas selge sulle või ei,

kahtlemata läheb kõik universumis ettenähtud rada.

Seega, ole rahujalal jumalaga,

kes ta ka sinu jaoks pole.

Mida iganes teed või püüad,

säilita hingerahu kesk elu eksitavat melu.

Hoolimata pettusest, vaevast ja luhtunud unistustest

maailm ikka on ilus.

Ole rõõmus.

Püüa olla õnnelik.

Koos ja üksi / Together and alone

Sa tuled ja
ME OLEME KOOS
Sa lähed ja
MA JÄÄN ÜKSI
Võtad kaasa naeru kerguse rõõmu

Armastuse rõõmu me jagame koos
Armastuse kurbust kanname üksi

Mõnes suhtes ollakse kogu aeg üksi

You come and
WE ARE TOGETHER
You go and
I AM ALONE
You take along laughter lightness joy

The joy of love we share together
The sorrows of love we bear alone

In some relations, one is alone all the time

Kaljul

Tean tunnen

aiman adun

mil lained ta pea kohal

kokku löövad

ja mind appi ta hüüab

Mu kätt ent ta vastu ei võta

mannetuna teda vaatan

üles-alla hulpimas

ta pigem hukkub

Mu vägi mind hoia

uppujaga uppumast

allaandjaga alla andmast

vihkajaga vihkamast

Kanna mind oma kaljul

et kuuleksin enda häält

järgiksin enda vaistu

kõnniksin enda rada

Hurm

Lendled mu kohal

su tiibade plagin

hurmab erutab mind

tasamaade tasast last

Sinus on hoogu sinus on jõudu

mu juurde laskud

oma tiivule võtad

mulle imelisi ilmu näitad

Hurma tagant ent irvitab hullus

pillad mind pilkases pimeduses

et kaose järel taas oma

tiibu mu kohal plagistada

Aga siis sa varised

murdunud tiib elutult su kõrval

usun usun su võimesse tõusta lennata veel

ent mu jalge ette sa oigama jääd

Teine

Teine

mitte esimene

roll täis tööd ja tõotusi

Kas siis nii vähe endast hoolin

ootejaama jään

tõmbetuule kätte

Kurbuse all

Kurbuse all kummargil

kõnnin kesk tähitut ööd

kauguses uluv koer

mu südamesoius soleerib

kaua teel – ei tea

kaua veel – pole aimu

kurbus hellalt hoiab mu südamesoovi

kiigutab tasa lahti ei lase

Kaugelt

Imetled mind kaugelt

kõrgele sead

teed enese imepisikeseks

kui ma suu avan

hirmud sa ja

tulistjalu paged

Lahku

Lahtunud lootuses

tallame neima naatidel

ja villime viha veini

Lähedased kaugenevad ja

armastajaist saavad jõhkurid

kes pigem tapavad kui lepivad

Kohtudes olime võõrad

lahkume kui võõrad

Hotell / Hotel

Taas üks uus hotell

taas üks puhkepaik meile

kes me aina elust läbi tuiskame

kodune koht kõledal teel

Tule mu arm lebame voodil

langeme siidlinade embusse

nõrkeme kullake nõrkeme

joome veel sõõmu rõõmu

mis lahke saatus me karikasse valand

Hotellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Hotellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Hotelllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Me kohal

tuhat ööbikut laulma puhkeb

paradiis – meie oma siin ja praegu

puhkepaik

voodisiid

pehme ihu

                        ja

                             meie ise

                                            ise

Another new hotel

another rest stop

for us rushing through our lives

a homey place on a lonely road

Come my love let us lie down in bed

let us fall into the caress of silky sheets

let us relax my love relax

let us drink some joy

a kind fate has poured into our cup

Hotellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Hotellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Hotelllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Above us

a thousand nightingales burst into a song

paradise - ours here and now

rest stop

silky sheets

soft skin

                         and

                              us as we are

                    as we are

♥ Ernst Enno: Rändaja õhtulaul / Rover's Evening Song

Ma kõnnin hallil lõpmata teel

kesk nurmi, täis valmivat vilja,

ma kõnnin ja kõnnin otsata teel,

ju lapsena teesid armastas meel -

teed laulavad õhtu hilja.

Need teed, kuis on nad nii kõvad kui keed,

need otsata kutsuvad jooned, -

ma kõnnin ja kõnnin, teed kõvad kui keed,

nii hallid ja tolmused kõik need teed,

need rändaja eluhooned.

Ju lapsena teesid armastas meel,

ju lapsena kuulda tee juttu -

ju lapsena kõndi armastas meel,

oma laulu nii laulda hallil teel,

kui polekski ilmas ruttu.

Tund hiline nüüd, laulab lõpmata -

meel igatseb tolmuta randa,

tund hiline, tee on kõva kui kee,

mind hoiab kui mõrsjaks enesele -

ei siiski saa pärale kanda.

Ma kõnnin hallil lõpmata teel

kesk nurmi, täis valmivat vilja,

ma kõnnin ja kõnnin otsata teel,

kui teede laul, tee helisev meel,

ja kõik on õhtu nii hilja.

Treading on an endless gray road

between the fields full of ripening grain,

treading and treading on an endless road,

early on I was drawn to roads –

roads sing late at night.

How tough these roads, they are as chains,

these endless inviting lines –

treading and treading, these roads tough as chains,

so gray and dusty, all these roads,

    a rover’s living quarters.

Early on my mind was drawn to roads,

early on to listen to the roads speaking,

early on my mind was drawn to tread,

to sing my own song on a gray road,

as if there’s no hurry in the world.

The late hour is singing endlessly –

my mind desiring to reach a shore without dust,

the late hour, the road tough as a chain

keeps me as a bride for itself –

but it can’t take me there.

Treading on an endless gray road

between the fields of ripening grain,

treading and treading on an endless road;

the song of roads, the ring of roads

and all is so late at night.
